It is currently 10:00am and I am sitting out on the balcony of our hotel catching up on my homework. As I was sipping my coffee, I began having a panic attack over all of the work I have to complete before the end of the term next week. Ah serenity!

This was quite possibly the worst week to go on vacation. I have a 15 page paper to submit this week as well as preparations for final presentations next week. Not to mention it has rained everyday so we have had to cancel our boat twice. Hopefully today is the day!

My parents have been down here since the end of our Disney trip. My mom flew back for a week and half for work and then my dad flew up for one weekend to attend my 9 month year old cousins baptism. I met them down here for this week because they are headed home this coming weekend and they would not let me come down during our August break by myself.

Normally, we would be staying in our beach front condo that my dad and his brother bought many years back. However, due to black mold from a recent hurricane, we find ourselves staying at the Hotel Effie while the contractors work on removing the black mold. Bummer!

On Sunday, we went deep sea fishing. We caught 20 red snapper, 4 bonita, and 2 600-700 pound bullsharks. Unfortunately, we did not have a gun on us so we had to release the sharks. It was a great day.

Monday and Tuesday have been rainy. We are members of a boat club down here so both days we were supposed to go on the boat it rained. Bummer. It is now Wednesday and it has stopped raining and we are slated to go on the boat this afternoon!

I decided to blog this trip because, as a part time resident of Florida and a full time resident of North Carolina, I cannot help but contrast the incredible work that Governor DeSantis has done combatting Covid in comparison to King Cooper.

Down here there are no masks... anywhere. The case numbers are down. People are happy. Concerts are going on right on the beach. Life down here today is very similar to life down here in 2019.

In North Carolina, people are still wearing masks. Their children are still wearing masks. While governor Cooper has rescinded his mask mandate, he still is not following the science and is requiring masks on children in the classrooms. Bufoonery!

This is the view from my favorite restaurant down here: Boshamps. They specialize in seafood and oysters. That boat is their charter boat that goes out and catches their fresh seafood every day.

Life down here is simpler. It is relaxing. Even now as I am doing my homework, I am reminded of the peace and serenity of the waves beating the shore.

As Governor DeSantis proudly boasts, "In Florida, we chose Freedom over Fauci"... and it worked. Florida is open. Florida is healthy. And Florida is leading the world in vaccinations of the most vulnerable.
